Dungeon Settlers Research Books - Where to Find Tech Books
Dungeon Settlers research books are a dungeon-loot problem, not the same question as which technology to research next. Start with the safest current floor where your build shows relevant loot, check visible chests and containers carefully, and return with the book rather than assuming one room or one chest guarantees it.

FAQ
Where should I look for Dungeon Settlers research books?
Run a short, manageable expedition and inspect the current loot containers and research-related locations shown by your build. Public evidence supports searching dungeon loot, but not one permanent room or guaranteed chest.
Does every treasure chest contain a research book?
No fixed guarantee is currently verified. Treat a chest as an opportunity to inspect, not proof that a book will appear, and do not push deeper solely because the previous chest was empty.
Are research books the same as research points?
Treat them as separate until the current interface says otherwise. A book can be an input or progression item, while research progress still depends on the active node, work station, worker, time, and any displayed cost.
What should I research after finding a book?
Return to the settlement, open the research screen, and choose the node that removes the next bottleneck. Use the Research Guide for order and decisions; this page is about locating and protecting the book.
The safest current answer
Treat a research book as a protected expedition objective. Choose the safest floor your current party can clear, inspect every relevant chest or container on the route, and return once the book is secured or the route becomes more dangerous than the research is worth.
Current player-facing references agree on the important negative answer: a chest does not automatically guarantee a book, and there is not enough stable evidence for a single permanent room, quantity, or route. That does not make the search random; it means the reliable loop is careful inspection plus a controlled return decision.
Run a research-book expedition
1. Open the research screen at home and name the next node the book will support. If no visible node needs it, do not risk a deep run without a clear purpose.
2. Choose a floor and route that the current party can clear while preserving food, recovery, energy, and a safe return. A book run is successful only when the resource reaches the settlement.
3. Inspect visible chests, containers, and any current research-related loot location instead of sprinting past them. Use the item tooltip to confirm that the object is the research book or the current equivalent name.
4. Put the book in a safe inventory slot, check the route home, and return when the objective is complete. Do not turn one missing book into an uncontrolled deep push.
5. At home, open the research station and verify what changed. If the node is still blocked, read the current cost and prerequisite rather than assuming the book alone completes research.
What is not currently guaranteed
Do not publish a fixed floor, exact chest count, guaranteed room, enemy drop, refresh timer, or per-run quantity unless the current build provides a second independent confirmation. A current database entry can identify a candidate item source, but it does not prove that every procedural run will produce it.
Do not mix research books with research time. A resident may still need to work at the research station after the book is returned, and the current screen may require additional materials or a prerequisite node. The visible progress bar is the success check.
If a source says “library,” “dungeon core,” or a specific floor, record the build and source date. Keep it as a candidate route until current footage, data, or the game interface confirms that the wording still applies to Early Access.
When a book run fails
If no book appears, first check whether every relevant container was opened and whether the current item name differs from the guide’s wording. Then end the run if the route is becoming unsafe; an empty chest is not evidence that the next floor will be better.
If the book is in the inventory but research does not move, separate acquisition from activation. Check the active node, station, worker priority, cost, prerequisite, and time. The Research Guide covers that base-side troubleshooting.
If the party repeatedly dies before returning, lower the route risk or difficulty, improve recovery, or choose a shallower floor. A reliable short loop creates better evidence than a single deep attempt that loses both the book and the party.
Version boundary
Update this page when a current build, official note, verified database snapshot, or reproducible player footage confirms a more specific acquisition route. Keep the no-guarantee statement if procedural generation or loot rules still make a fixed route unsafe to promise.

Version note: Current public sources do not establish a permanent room, fixed floor guarantee, exact quantity, or universal drop rate for research books. Use current item, research, loot, and player evidence before adding a precise route.
Version boundary: The current research-book answer is intentionally route-first and uncertainty-aware. Competitor pages help identify the search task, while the current game build must establish exact locations and guarantees.
