Dungeon Settlers Clay - How to Get It
Need Dungeon Settlers Clay? Reach Floor 3+ and target Acid Slogels and Predatory Frogs during normal dungeon exploration. The current Early Access route report says Acid Slogels can drop 2 Clay and Predatory Frogs can drop 5, but neither quantity nor chance is a confirmed universal rule; use enemy drops for small needs and check merchants when you need a larger stockpile.

FAQ
Where do I get Clay in Dungeon Settlers?
Reach Floor 3+ and target Acid Slogels and Predatory Frogs while exploring. The current route report lists 2 Clay for Acid Slogels and 5 for Predatory Frogs, but the exact drop behavior is still unconfirmed.
How much Clay do the enemies drop?
The current guide reports that Acid Slogels can drop 2 Clay and Predatory Frogs can drop 5. Treat both as reported outcomes, not guaranteed quantities or a confirmed drop table.
What is the best way to get a large amount of Clay?
Use the 3F+ enemy route for a few pieces, then check merchants when the goal becomes a larger stockpile. Merchant prices, quantities, rank, and refresh conditions are not independently confirmed, so read the current trade screen before committing gold.
Why can’t I find Clay on Floors 1–2?
The clearest current route starts at Floor 3+, so repeated searches on Floors 1–2 may not solve the problem. The collected sources do not prove that Clay is impossible on every lower-floor run; treat the exact floor distribution as unconfirmed and make safe progress toward 3F your next goal.
Are chests and mining confirmed Clay sources?
A third-party guide reports chests and mining dungeon floors as additional Clay routes, but the current build has not independently confirmed their timing, yield, or priority. Use the reported 3F+ enemy route first unless your live game clearly shows another source.

Where to get Clay now
The clearest current Early Access answer is Floor 3+. Acid Slogels are reported from Floor 3 onward, and the current guide lists them and Predatory Frogs as practical Clay targets. If you need only a few pieces, defeat them as they appear during a normal run.
The route report gives 2 Clay for an Acid Slogel and 5 for a Predatory Frog. These are reported outcomes, not a confirmed guarantee, average, or drop-rate table; exact chances and enemy distribution remain unconfirmed. Stop once the current construction or crafting bottleneck is covered.
Why Floors 1–2 may keep coming up empty
The collected EA material supports a practical route beginning at Floor 3+, but not a complete table for every lower-floor room, node, or run. An empty Floor 1 or Floor 2 expedition therefore cannot prove that Clay never appears there; the exact lower-floor distribution is unconfirmed.
If a Farm, Kiln, or another Clay-consuming step is waiting, stop searching the same early rooms and prepare a safe push toward 3F. Bring the supplies and equipment needed for the next expedition, while treating the exact earliest Clay floor as unconfirmed.
How to farm Clay without wasting a run
Use a repeatable loop: prepare at the settlement → enter the dungeon → reach Floor 3+ → clear Acid Slogels and Predatory Frogs during normal exploration → check the Clay total before choosing another room. This ties collection to normal progression instead of searching every tile or relying on an unsupported fixed route. Leave when the next building or recipe no longer needs more Clay.
Your ready signal is practical: the current Farm, Kiln, recipe, workstation, or construction step can start, and the next room would add more danger than value. Return when the party is tired, injured, overloaded, or short on supplies. Do not turn a small Clay run into an unnecessary deep push.
If one expedition produces no Clay, do not treat that result as proof that the route is wrong. Try again during normal exploration; encounter density and repeatability remain unconfirmed. When the goal becomes a large stockpile, switch to the current merchant screen instead of forcing every piece through enemy drops.
What to check when a Clay run gives nothing
When no pickup appears, check whether the encounter matches a reported target, whether the item was collected, and whether the floor and build are comparable to the source. One empty encounter cannot prove that Acid Slogels never drop Clay, that 3F+ is invalid, or that chests are better. Record the floor, enemy, item result, and room outcome before changing plans.
If the live screen names a different item or source, follow it and treat the older report as unconfirmed. If the route becomes unsafe, return with the materials already secured. A Clay run should unblock the next building or recipe, not prove a universal loot rule in one expedition.
Need a lot of Clay? Use merchants later
Enemy drops are the practical first answer when you need a few pieces. When several construction or crafting steps are waiting, a merchant may be more convenient for a larger gap, provided you have enough gold and the current stock includes Clay. Check the live item, price, and quantity before spending your reserve.
Merchant rank, price, inventory size, refresh condition, and repeatability are not independently confirmed. Use the merchant as a bulk option when the screen supports it, not as a promise that every visit has Clay. Use the existing Gold guide for related gold decisions.
Are chests and mining alternative Clay sources?
A third-party guide reports treasure chests and mining dungeon floors as additional Clay channels, but says its exact drop tables were not announced. These are leads for a future check, not a confirmed replacement for the 3F+ enemy answer. The current build has not established whether they are earlier, safer, more productive, or simply an additional route.
If the live game shows Clay from a chest, rock, or other interaction, record the floor, source, displayed quantity, and build before calling it repeatable. Until then, use the reported enemy path for a small need and keep alternatives unconfirmed. Do not infer a fixed yield from one pickup or a mismatched database field.
What Is Clay Used For?
Clay appears in several settlement and production steps, including farming, ceramics, equipment, and casting. The sources support these use relationships, but not one fixed cost sheet for every save. Check the current building or recipe screen; the table is a use map, not a price list.
A source can show that Clay belongs to a route without proving that every listed building is the next best purchase. Match the spend to the problem stopping the next expedition or upgrade. If the live screen differs, follow it and treat the older reference as unconfirmed.
| Use | Requirement | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Farm | Clay in the current building path | Food |
| Kiln | Clay in the current recipe path | Ceramics |
| Ceramics | Clay processed through a Kiln | Base expansion chain |
| Leather Workstation | Clay in the current building path | Equipment |
| Casting Workbench | Clay in the current building path | Production |
What should you save Clay for first?
Use the next bottleneck, not recipe order, to decide. If food or agriculture blocks the next expedition, keep enough Clay for the Farm path; if production or equipment is the problem, compare the Kiln, Leather Workstation, or Casting Workbench requirement. Ceramics may connect Clay to base expansion, so check what each spend enables before using the reserve.
Spend Clay when the result immediately removes the problem stopping the next expedition, production step, or upgrade. Otherwise, keep a reserve and collect more during normal dungeon progress. If you cannot name the next action it enables, wait for the current building or recipe screen to clarify the priority.
Rank 2 Guild Trader is a Demo note, not the EA answer
A Demo patch note recorded that Rank 2 Guild Traders sold large amounts of Clay and Stone while Region 2 was unavailable. This is historical Demo context, not confirmation of the current EA merchant rank, stock, price, or region behavior. Keep it separate from the live route.
If a current merchant offers Clay at a suitable price, buying may solve a large shortage. Do not send current players specifically looking for a Rank 2 trader before giving the 3F+ enemy route; live merchant conditions remain unconfirmed.
